What berries and fruits can dogs?

Camping is wonderful, and dogs love it even more than we do. Especially when there is an opportunity to enjoy something unusual: for example, berries and fruits. But which of them can dogs eat, and which ones should be strictly avoided?

All dogs, even the smallest and kindest, are predators by nature. The basis of their diet is meat, but this does not mean that all other food is contraindicated.

Many dogs, for example, simply love to enjoy fruits and berries. Veterinary experts do not recommend introducing them into the diet on an ongoing basis, but in moderate amounts you can and should pamper the dog. Especially in the summer, when the pet can eat fresh berries directly from the garden or meadow. But be careful: not all of them are useful. Keep a useful memo and take care of your pet’s health!

What berries and fruits can a dog have?
What berries and fruits can dogs?
Dogs will benefit from:

gooseberry: this berry improves digestion,

blueberries: strengthens blood vessels and improves eyesight,

currant: useful for the cardiovascular system,

mountain ash: rich in beneficial trace elements,

apples: rarely cause allergies, very useful for vision and coat,

pears: contain a lot of fiber and reduce the risk of heart disease,

melons and watermelons: perfectly quench thirst, but cause frequent urination, so do not overdo it. In no case give the dog crusts: they accumulate toxins.

In limited quantities, bananas, persimmons, kiwi, melon, cherries and pitted cherries can also be given. If the dog is not prone to allergies, you can treat it to a pair of strawberries and raspberries (blackberries).

The main thing is not to overdo it. Everything is useful in moderation! Two or three berries as a treat is enough.

What kind of fruit can a dog have?
What berries and fruits are dangerous for dogs?
The following fruits and berries in large quantities are dangerous to the dog’s health.

Any citrus fruits: these are the strongest allergens and irritants of the mucous membranes of the entire digestive tract

pomegranates and peaches: lead to the accumulation of toxins

grapes: a frequent culprit for diarrhea and vomiting

Avocado: harmful to the heart and lungs

quince: causes severe vomiting and dehydration

any canned fruit: they contain a lot of sweet that the dog does not need

dried fruits: in themselves completely useless for the dog, and when combined with preservatives and sweeteners, even dangerous

any exotic fruits and vegetables, the properties of which you know little. Do not risk the health of the pet!

And finally, a few important rules:

Dog suitable seasonal fruits and berries grown in environmentally friendly conditions.

If the fruits have already lain and smell suspiciously, they should not be given to the dog.

Do not add sugar to the fruit, trying to increase their palatability for the dog. Sugar is bad for pets!

In case of negative reactions to food and for all issues related to feedings, contact your veterinarian.
