What danger fall autumn leaves?

Dogs really like autumn leaves! With them you can play with your foot, or you can dig into them with your head. Be sure to take a picture of the pet in the process – the photos will definitely turn out great! But rejoicing in the fall, do not lose vigilance. Autumn leaves can be dangerous for a pet, and here’s why.

Why is autumn leaves dangerous?
Fallen colored leaves cover the earth like a blanket. It’s nice to walk on them, it’s nice to look at them, but we don’t see what is under them. And if we don’t really care about us with our boots, then the dogs come into contact with the leaves not only with the paw pads, but also with the nose and tongue, and maybe even with the whole body. How can such contact be dangerous for them?

Danger number 1. Sharp and sharp objects
Fragments of glass, fittings, or other objects that the dog might hurt may be under autumn leaves. Unfortunately, usually the owners notice them when the pet is already cut or hurt.

What to do?

Keep your dog on a leash and carefully inspect the walking area.

Danger number 2. Edible – Inedible
Dogs are still lovers of picking up all sorts of “nasty things” from the ground. If on a flat road the owner immediately sees the garbage and takes the dog away from him, then it is much more difficult to notice the “treasure” under the leaves. But the dog – thanks to a terrific scent – there will not be such a problem!

It’s very dangerous for a pet to pick food from the ground. The simplest thing he can get from such a “treat” is an upset digestion and helminthiasis, and the most dangerous is a serious infection or poisoning, which in some cases can cost a pet a life.

What to do?

To teach a pet not to pick up food from the ground, to work out the commands “can” and “fu”. Walk on a leash. If the dog is still trying to pick up litter, put on a muzzle.

Danger number 3. Puddles and dirt
You will say that without them in the fall anywhere and the dog will get dirty anyway. But the point is not in cleanliness, but in the reagent, which they begin to process the streets in the fall. Autumn leaves mix with mud and puddles, accumulate reagent. And he, in turn, remains on the paws of the dog, causing cracks and dermatitis.

What to do?

Wash your feet with warm water after each walk. Use special protective wax for paws.

Danger number 4. Ticks and fleas
We know that fleas are dangerous all year round. But ticks with the departure of summer also do not disappear. They go into hibernation only when the temperature below 5 ° C is established outside the window. Until this happens, they are still dangerous and autumn leaves are a great place to meet them.

What to do?

Treat your dog regularly for fleas and ticks.

Danger number 5. Hypothermia
Autumn is rich in changes in weather, wind and rain. The dog has every chance to freeze on the street, catch a cold or get an exacerbation of chronic diseases. Felting in leaves (that is, on cold and damp earth) contributes to this.

What to do?

Do not allow the pet to become cold. Protect from moisture. Use special clothing.

Taking these recommendations into account, you will give your dog a wonderful – and, most importantly – safe, autumn. Enjoy your walks!
